The energy sector in Sub-Saharan Africa faces numerous challenges, but there is also an increasing sense of urgency and opportunity for the development of the industry on the continent.

Fasken is delighted to launch the Africa Rising report, which will provide insights and learnings into how this region is changing and adapting in the face of everything that 2020 has to offer.

Africa Rising was written in association with Energy Voice. The report follows the entire arc of energy in Africa, from upstream exploration through to the delivery of electricity.

Even before the onset of COVID-19, it was clear change was coming. This speed of change has accelerated though and sub-Saharan Africa is diversifying from its focus on exports to a broader-based energy sector, which can also deliver power more widely.

Presenting some of the findings from the report, Fasken and Energy Voice invite you to sign up to the launch event on 2nd December 2020 at 2pm (GMT).

With the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow postponed until November 2021, we are bringing together some of the leading voices in the energy transition debate in our brand new virtual summit.

Energy Voice is proud to offer a platform for this vital discussion and bring together the key stakeholders that will shape the future of the transition with our audience in a virtual setting.

We want the summit to begin setting the agenda for COP26 exactly a year out from the conference. The event format will encourage insightful debate with a view to generating some clear and actionable outcomes we can take forward as an industry to the Glasgow talks in 2021.

Over the course of four separate sessions our panellists will present their visions for the transition and exchange ideas with our audience in facilitated Q&A and networking.

Fasken’s Global Energy Group can make a difference. Whether you are permitting a new pipeline or constructing a new transmission line, installing or refurbishing a generating facility, exploring renewable and emerging technologies, filing an application or intervention with a utilities commission, or starting an M&A deal on upstream assets or a renewables project, our multi-disciplinary team of professionals can help you succeed.

Business strategies in the energy sector can be complex. We advise private and public companies, utilities, lenders and governments involved in every aspect of the industry, from rate regulation to production agreements to multi-year, multi-billion dollar projects. Consultations with indigenous groups and local stakeholders have added another layer of complexity and are an increasing and important aspect of our work. We are also engaged in addressing strategic ESG challenges and opportunities, as the world looks to a zero carbon emissions and green economy future.

Ours is a truly global practice: the clients we serve and projects we’ve been involved with span North America, Africa and the Middle East, Europe, Latin America and Asia. With offices across Canada, Beijing, Johannesburg and London, we are ready to help you realize your business goals.
