“Most people who know me know I’m not speechless very often but I am this time. I just didn’t expect it at all. I came here 21 years ago thinking I would be here for five years but Dundee just got in my blood and now I would not leave it for the world. Let’s not make bones about it – Dundee two decades ago was for some people not the best of cities. But I wanted to try and get ourselves to believe that we could be the best little city ever. We’re getting there now. The recently retired city planner added: “In some ways I’m sad that I’m not going to be there to lead it but there’s so much more to come.”

“I can’t believe we have won a Courier Business Award for a second year in a row. It was so unexpected, we were just delighted to have been nominated for this year’s award. We used last year’s win as a benchmark, to see how we have improved over the year. We have a terrific team of volunteers and staff who do such a great job, without whom we wouldn’t be where we are.”

I am delighted and absolutely proud as punch. Last year we won Service Business of the Year so delighted to be back and win again. It was a pleasant surprise and it’s for all of our work force. We started off as a small business in Kirriemuir and we have been at it a long time but the fact that we have won the Growth of the Year and been recognised shows how we’re still progressing.

I’m having the best time ever. We also had a great time last year. We won an award last year and this year we’re sponsoring and also up for an award. Last year was the first time we’d gone for the awards and we were so impressed by how good the night was – it was by far the best event of its kind we’d been to, so we decided to become sponsors.

“We entered in 2015 but this is the first year since. Over the last year we have been trying to get our name out there and that’s why we entered again. It’s a bit of a surprise but we’re really pleased.”

It’s absolutely fantastic to have won. It’s great to have recognition for a lot of hard work over the last five years. We were really surprised as there was a lot of very strong competition. This is a fantastic event and it’s the awards we take most seriously each year. It’s just such a great event and it’s fantastic to have received an award to recognise all the work we do.
